Yeah, so, with the help of Kelly Turso (photographer), Charles Churchill (hair stylist) & Marni Simon (make-up), they transformed me into a awesomely-tacky-slightly-crazy-overly-exuberant- 1960’s- psychadelic-Barbie to celebrate the start of summer (all inspired by that amazing psychadelic one-piece. HOT!!!) In this “Rachel’s Guide to Summer“, enjoy my picks for summer… from favorite summer looks to margarita madness to great outdoor spots to dine & hang and of course, all things summer vintage. These are purely editorial picks - my take on summer in the city and living it up. Ahh, what would summer time be without a lil vintage Hawaiian fashion? I am LOVING this look, especially as a onsie (umm, can it get any cuter? a onsie?) Miss Nikki Moose, being as fabulous as she is, rocked this look the other week at the Making Time party, and I found this 80’s number at a vintage store in LA. SO summer of ‘82! And ‘08!

I kinda can’t get enough of terrycloth. Particularly onesies. Specifically high-waisted ones from the 80’s. I kinda can’t stop buying them on Ebay. They’re essential for hanging on the roof-deck and so much cuter than sweats. Let’s bring ‘em back. (But if you see RachelLovesVintage bidding on Ebay, back off b*tches!!! hahaha)

At DnA Salon, their schtick is “The Science of Beautiful Hair” and their signature service is scalp analysis and treatments. In other words, they examine and diagnose scalp and hair health- a much overlooked segment of haircare that apparently is truly is the basis of beautiful hair. (who knew?) Seriously, that concert the other day outside of Sailor Jerry was kinda ridiculous. There were like 2000 people outside and people were jumping out of trees into the crowd (as illustrated with stick figures above.) Only Sailor Jerry can pull this shit off. Okay, I’m going to let you in on a little secret: I LOVE Bluegrass. Like, in my car I just leave the bluegrass station on at all times on my Sirius Radio. I definitely have a little red-neck in me, but I also love to be a lady. So this weekend I’m going to combine the two in Newtown.

Newtown has a lovely little small-town Main Street call State Street with adorable shops & restaurants. This Sunday there’s a Bluegrass Concert at the old Newtown Theater, so I’m going to make a whole day of it.

First I’ll start with a facial at Blossom, then I’ll shop at Love Illuminati, then the Bluegrass Concert, dinner at the Brick Hotel and cocktails at The Grotto. (more…)
